Last week was one helluva fun week filled with discoveries and an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment. I finished my infinity scarf (pictured above) a day after my last post and it's already made its debut in the Waiheke supermarket. The weather is starting to warm up though, so I may have to stow it for next year's Autumn and Winter, but at least I have something that I can wear that I can proudly state that I made.
However, after making the scarf, I wanted to take a short break from loom knitting and learn a new craft to diversify my weekly projects. My mom sent me a rather large care package last week that held my small collection of yarn that I purchased back in the States (for just $1!), and although the yarn is very dated and the colors don't pair well with one another, it's perfect for practice. The care package also held my collection of crochet needles that my mom gifted me when I was only 12. Crochet was something that completely went over head back then, but with my new found love for anything involving yarn, I was extremely motivated on trying to learn the new craft.
Three days later, I had four large practice swatches of the four basic crochet stitches. I won't lie, my hands felt like they were going to drop off at any second since I have joint pains from years of gaming and illustrating. I refused to stop and pushed through the pain, and before I knew it, I was completely hooked. I started crocheting something new that I'm very excited to show you all, but I don't want to give anything away until I have reached a certain length in the piece.
The problem I'm facing is the availability of yarn here on Waiheke. The tiny craft store sticks the knife in everything and the cheapest yarn I found was around $15! Insane! My birthday is on the 21st, so maybe I'll use that to justify purchasing a few things from PremierYarns.com and shipping them over to New Zealand. It might be a bit pricey, but even with the shipping costs, it still won't be anywhere near purchasing yarn from the tiny craft store here.
Oh boy!
