The World Cup started a few days ago, and as a Brazilian, I was busy being both excited and cringing at the amount of attention my home country is currently receiving. It's safe to say that I'm mostly keeping out of this World Cup (which is quite bizarre given the previous World Cups), but I do try to make an effort on watching the cultural highlights that the Brazilian news features every night.
The one thing this World Cup has managed to do is reinstating my love for the colors of my home country. There's just something about how lovely the blues, greens and yellows all mix together to form a piece of art that is both soothing and pleasing to the eye. During a random bout of inspiration, I took out my colored pencils and quickly drew a 20 minute sketch using greens, blues and yellows to fill in the darks and the lights. It's far from perfect, especially when my goal wasn't to finish anything (and yes it's on lined paper), but I'm excited that my artists block is slowly chipping away.

For the past week, I've been dealing with increasingly painful migraines that are making it difficult for me to sit down/get up/walk for long periods. Fatigue and the inability to focus are taking a toll on my crafts, and is also preventing me from partaking in one of my favorite past times: reading. For a bibliophile, that's incredibly depressing, but at least I have my imagination to send me off into my own personal fantasy when I'm hiding under the covers. Hopefully this migraine will pass soon, because laying under the covers for long periods of time is terribly boring, not to mention uncomfortable.
I do have a bit of good news though, I'm moving to New Zealand in two and a half weeks so I'll have more time to indulge in my crafts and my artwork when everything is settled. Moving from Connecticut to the opposite side of the world is forcing me to downsize, so I'm only bringing the essentials such as my cross stitching supplies and my colored pencils. Everything else is staying at my folk's place until I have the money to ship everything over the Pacific Ocean. That... might take a while given the conditions of my visa.
Hopefully I'll have something fun and artsy to post next week, in the meantime, I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. Happy Father's Day!
